The convention takes over the entirety of the Derby Mickleover Hotel (the first hotel shown in the list below) and all rooms are reserved for attendees to book on a first-come, first-served basis.

Full details of the different types of rooms, prices, and how to book are covered in the convention's FAQs which can be found on this page.

Meet the team

If you've been wondering who is notionally "in charge" of the convention, wonder no more.

This band of handsome fellows take care of all aspects of the event, so if you're looking for someone to compliment or - more likely - someone to complain to, then track one of them down. If they're not immediately recognisable from their profile pictures, then look for the fetching cornflower-blue MidCon t-shirts, combined with a bemused, or drunk (or both) expression, and chances are you've found yourself a committee member.

Jeremy Tullett

Chairman

Our Hon. Chair handles bookings, amongst much else, and can often be found manning the registration desk, trying desperately to push cubes around a map whilst fending off repeated enquiries about what time lunch is served. Drinks wine.

John Harrington

Beer Co-ordinator

In charge of ensuring no-one dries out during the convention, John masterminds the beer deliveries, and is fond of shouting out things like "wild boar" and "gold" at random times during games.

Dave Simpson

Chief Diplomat

Organiser-in-chief of Diplomacy tournaments, Dave also 'advises' the beer committee, and handles the convention booklet

Peter Card

First Lieutenant

Peter is the right-hand man on a lot of things - the beer sub-committee and the Bring and Buy, in particular - and enjoys nothing more than falling asleep mid-game at 1:30 in the morning

David Norman

Quizmaster General

Famous - or infamous - for the Saturday night quiz, and for announcing anything that needs to be announced, David is the committee's details man - especially when it comes to the correct formatting of phone numbers

Giles Bennett

Tech guru

Handles anything to do with technology. Was dragooned onto the committee when it decided to lower its average age, although it realised too late it didn't lower it by much. Looks less like Father Christmas than his profile picture may suggest.

Getting here and away

By bus

From Derby bus station, trentbarton's V1 "The Villager" runs every half hour to Burton, but conveniently stops right outside the entrance to the hotel in Mickleover.

There is also "The Mickleover" which runs every ten minutes, but to Mickleover town centre, which is a short walk from the hotel.

By train

Derby is well served by East Midlands Railway and CrossCountry - once there, transfer to the bus station for onward transport to the hotel.

By car

The hotel is easy to reach by car, whether coming from the east or west via the A50, or from the north or south via the A38 and beyond. Take the exit from the A516 towards Mickleover town center, which will sweep you up and back over the A516, with the turning to the hotel on your right immediately after the bridge.

Hotel plan

If you want to know what's where at the convention, this plan shows all the communal and gaming areas of the hotel.
